After spending 16 years as a full-time carer for her late mother, Rosie is embarking on an exciting new chapter. At 62, Rosie is leaving behind her 3-bedroom home in Brisbane's northern suburbs and moving into a cosy 1-bedroom unit in a bayside complex specifically designed for older adults and people with disabilities.
'Brand new beginning, brand new life in a brand-new home – it’s very exciting,' Rosie says, brimming with optimism for her future.
Rosie's move represents more than just a change in living space. After years of full-time caregiving, she’s eager to reclaim her independence and become an active part of the local community.
'I jumped at the chance,' she explains. 'I want to start to look into community things and become part of the community. I’m looking forward to being a part of something somewhere, and getting to meet people and making friends.'
Her new home brings her closer to family, with her 3 children, 8 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren nearby. This proximity offers her a sense of security and joy as she embraces her new lifestyle.
Although Rosie has faced health challenges, including a heart attack and a stroke, she’s full of determination and positivity to make new friends, engage with her community, and enjoy her fresh start.
'I’m just thinking positive now, and that’s what I’m heading towards – enjoying the rest of my life. I want at least another 20 to 25 years of a happy life.'
